Over the past year I have been working on redecorating my bedroom. I had this vanity that was previously painted but it no longer worked in my space. I took a few hours to transform this piece with Dixie Belle paint and made a tinted wax to add to the details. Step Three I found these gorgeous drawer pulls, I love the slight beige veining in the marble and wanted to replicate the colour. Since brown wax would be a little too dark, I decided to replicate the colour by making a tinted wax. It is so easy to do and can make a big impact. I used my spatula to put some clear Best Dang wax and put it on my wax paper. I then added a few drops of Pinecone into the wax and mixed thoroughly until I was happy with the colour. Make sure not to apply too much wax, just add enough paint to slightly tint the wax. Next, I used my La Petite Brush to apply the beige wax into the details and moldings. I applied Best Dang wax in clear to the rest of the vanity and hemp oil to the wood top, adding more depth to the wood grain. I added Gold Gilding wax to the feet to tie it all together and add some bling. I love this transformation! The warm tones of the vanity works perfectly in my space and I love the tinted wax. Make sure to try this out on your next project! Happy painting! Please note these are affiliate links. If you follow these links and make a purchase I will receive a commission. I love a good decor hack, it’s a great way to add trends into your home without the expense. These gorgeous, aged Restoration Hardware vases are on trend, packed with texture and are a great way to display seasonal greenery or flowers. I had a glass vase that I was planning on dropping off at the thrift store that was the perfect size and shape for my decor hack. Here are the steps and materials you need to try out this decor hack on your next project! Materials
Step One First, I cleaned the vase with White Lightening to remove any grease or residue. Step Two Since the surface was glass and very slick, I applied a coat of Slick Stick over the whole surface and let it dry. After 2 hours, I applied another coat of Slick Stick and let it sit overnight. Step Three I wanted a very rustic look and added a scoop of Sea Spray- a texture medium, on a piece of wax paper. Then I added Caviar into the Sea Spray and mixed it until it had a crunchy peanut butter consistency. I painted the mixture on the vase, applying it in a cross hatch pattern (applying the paint in a X pattern) to give lots of texture. I continued painting the vase until it was completely covered and left it to dry overnight. Step Four Once it was dry, I gave my Easy Peasy wax a good shake and sprayed a light mist over the whole vase. Using my Shop Rag, I spread the wax evenly over the entire vase. Next, I dipped my brush into Dixie Dirt and applied it in a heavier application around the top, in the crevices and bottom, where it would age naturally. I blended the dirt in a circular motion moving into the center of the jar. By adding the wax first, it ensures the dirt will adhere to the vase. I love how my vase turned out, this hack was so easy to do and only took 4 steps! Dixie Belle Dirt in Earth is the perfect colour to give the vase that warm, aged effect. Now make sure to find a great spot in your home to showcase your work of art. Happy painting! I love adding a little bling into my decor. With the holidays around the corner, I wanted to bring the festive feel into my home. I had these thrifted half-painted candle holders that I wanted to transform using Dixie Belle’s Garnet Gemstone Mousse. Gemstone Mousse is a beautiful, highly pigmented, rich and creamy, water based product. It is a great way to add a metallic look and is so easy to use. Garnet is a rich, jewel tone colour that is perfect addition to your home decor for the holidays. Here is what you need and how you can use Garnet Gemstone Mousse in your next project. Materials
Step One First give your candle holders a good clean with White Lightning to remove any oil or dirt. Use a damp cloth to wipe away any residue. If your surface is slick make sure to use Slick Stick before the next step. Step Two Start by painting the candle holders in Caviar to create a base coat. After painting each candle holder, put it aside and let it dry. Step Three Next I gave the Gemstone Mousse a good shake to mix the pigments. I used a synthetic brush to apply a thin coat of the Mousse over the candle holder, making sure to push it into the details. Initially wanted to have some of the black (Caviar) peeking through but I loved the look of having these candle holders completely painted in Garnet. I let the candle holder dry overnight and let it cure. Step Four Finally, once my candle holders were dry, I used a shop rag to gently buff them to add some sheen and remove any residue. Garnet is the perfect colour for the fall or the holiday season. It can be used to elevate the look of items like picture frames, mirrors, furniture or even Christmas decorations!
This was so easy to do and only took four steps. Now, find a spot in your home to glam up your fall or holiday decor. Happy painting! Decorating for Halloween is a great way to have some fun, get creative and it doesn’t have to be expensive. A thrifty way to decorate is to head first to your local Salvation Army Thrift Store to see what you can find. On one of my trips I found some pool noodles and was inspired to create a spooky Halloween wreath. Here are the materials and steps I took, so you can create your own thrifted Halloween wreath too! Materials
Step One Place the pool noodle on your tablecloth. Cut out enough of the tablecloth to wrap around the noodle. Step Two First, attach each end of the tablecloth to the ends of the noodle. Use the glue gun to add a drop of glue to hold the tablecloth in place. Step Three Glue the rest of the tablecloth around the width of the noodle until the whole tablecloth is wrapped tightly around the noodle. Step Four Take the two ends of the noodle and put them together to make a circle. Use the electrical tape and tape it into place to create a wreath form. Step Five Decorate your wreath with flowers, decor, flameless candles and glue it into place. Now turn on your flameless candles and place your spooky noodle wreath on your front door! Happy thrifting!
