With everyone spending more time at home, it is especially important for us to be surrounded with items we love and that have a purpose. On a trip to my local Salvation Army Thrift store looking for furniture for my bedroom, I found this gorgeous dresser. It was in excellent condition, solid wood and had deep drawers to fit more clothes. After looking inside the drawer I found this was a Gibbard dresser! They were a Canadian furniture company known for their high quality furniture. If you are lucky you can often find them in thrift stores. The dark wood felt outdated in my space and I found the details of this stunning piece were lost. I decided to paint this piece in a soft, almost neutral blue. The first step in painting furniture is to prep it. Give it a good clean with TSP ( a super duper oil and grease remover), a quick scuff sand with 220 sandpaper as if you are wiping down your kitchen table and then wipe it off with a damp shop rag. Two coats of paint in this gorgeous soft blue colour updates this dresser. I added a metallic gold along the molding with a fine artist brush and a steady hand, to elevate the look and add some bling. Keeping a damp shop rag on hand to wipe off any mistakes makes the process easy and eliminates the need for painter’s tape. I painted the hardware to give it a more cohesive look. Fusion Mineral Paint has a built in top coat in it, once your paint has dried that is it! This stunning dresser has been transformed into an elegant statement piece. Next time you are looking for furniture head to your local Salvation Army Thrift store. You can easily paint it to make it work with your decor. Happy thrifting!
